Values

Over the past six weeks, I took an unplanned social media sabbatical. It turned out to be greatly fruitful, as it provided a time of reflection and clarity. One such contemplation was on the values and ethos I strive for, particularly as perceived in the public eye. I have occasionally spoken of or alluded to them in my articles and on Twitter, but I feel it is necessary to codify them.

1. Improve

I remain steadfastly dedicated to improvement in the industry as a whole, and seek to challenge all players in becoming better — humanity only benefits in the face of competition. This is why I am rooting for all the companies now, rather than the (frankly juvenile) worldview of aligning oneself with any particular “team”. Fierce competition means we end up the winners.

2. Critique

My goal is to view everything with a macro lens. I analyse the details to gauge a company’s overall health. I am unconcerned with any particular product or feature in isolation; rather, I seek to shed light on what they indicate about the company behind them.

3. Challenge

If I choose to comment on something, I will always be brutally honest. I refuse to beat around the bush. I am not here to make your life more positive or negative, to reaffirm your preconceived notions, or to validate your purchase decisions; my goal is to challenge — to be a change agent. And that is what you can expect.
