Pros
- Beautiful chrome bezel – reminiscent of steel Apple Watch and Original iPhone
- Feels great in your hand – better size than Plus
- Beautiful, vibrant OLED screen
- Face ID is very natural and fast – invisible when it works (9/10 times)
- App-switching swipe gesture
- Home gesture makes exiting apps very fast – no Springboard fly-in animation!
- Sharper cameras
- Portrait Lighting
Cons
- iOS unoptimised for the notch/OLED
- Face ID doesn’t work on desks
- iOS still buggy and missing functionality
- Missing battery percentage & Bluetooth headphones indicator
- Weird Control Centre placement
- Fiddly Reachability gesture
- Seems to charge slowly
- Wasted keyboard space
Observations
- Disabled TrueTone on day one
- Could use Apple Watch as second authentication factor – backup if Face ID fails or partially fails
- Would’ve liked Apple Pencil support
- Animoji definitely not its best feature
- Weird apps:
- Instagram (volume indicator under notch)
- Google (website text under notch)
- Safari & Apple News (home indicator overlap with text)
